Abbey Design is a vibrant, Kent-based company that was established in 2009 to provide a high quality architectural design service. The practice was founded by Lee Wood and Colin Edwards, who together have 49 years of experience working in the architectural and building industry.
From our offices in Canterbury, working with the latest technology, we are able to take an initial idea and turn it into reality. We pride ourselves on working closely with our clients, members of the design team and contractors, providing a seamless service from start to finish.
We work across many sectors, including:
John joined Abbey Design in January 2017, bringing with him a wealth of experience, particularly in BIM and education sector projects.
With an interest in sustainable and vernacular architecture, John enjoys projects that allow him to explore options to combine the best of traditional and contemporary construction techniques.
Outside work, John has a keen interest in classic cars and, were he not an architect, would have loved a career in car restoration.
Colin has over 27 years’ experience across a wide range of sectors including residential, commercial, education and listed buildings. He is an experienced designer with great artistic flair.
Coin has proven project management skills and an in-depth knowledge of contract procurement and planning regulations. He believes that excellent working relationships with clients, design consultants and contractors are key to the success of any project.
Colin has a well-deserved reputation for producing highly cost-effective buildings that are both functional but adaptable to suit future needs. Outside work, he enjoys spending time with his young family.
Lee has over 22 years’ experience working on both new-build and refurbishment projects across a wide range of sectors. His logical approach and focused attention to detail means that every project he takes on is completed on time and on budget.
Lee believes in stringent budget control and careful pre-design to limit the need for value engineering later on in the project cycle.
Over the last five years Lee has delivered a range of well-conceived buildings, often with challenging budgets. When not on-site wearing a hardhat, or sitting behind a computer in the office, Lee is usually found exploring the Kentish countryside on his Suzuki GSX-R750.
